Black History Month Spotlight: ‘ I take pride in knowing that for two years of my life, EVERY day was Black History Month’

My name is Bianca A. Hughley and I have been a Flight Attendant at PSA for nearly two years. I transferred to The Morgan State University, a Historic Black College and University in Baltimore, Maryland in 2010. I graduated with honors with my Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology in 2012.

I believe going to an HBCU has helped me to connect with others. There are certain things that go on at HBCUs that you can't find at other institutions and that helps bring a comradery amongst us. Our celebrations are different. Homecoming was a new and lively experience and it’s something that members attend well after graduation. Connections that are made at an HBCUs are lifelong.

Morgan State University was the first school where I learned extensively about the African Diaspora. During the recent unrest, I would drive by the school and a banner read "Where Black Lives Have Always Mattered". Racism and discrimination were the last of my worries there; and the absence of those mechanisms allowed me to flourish enough to push forward and earn my Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from The University of Baltimore. I look forward to my new position at PSA Airlines and being at the front lines of improving Diversity, inclusion, and representation. As we celebrate Black History Month, I take pride in knowing that for two years of my life, EVERY day was Black History Month, and I will continue to live my life that way.
