Meet the ‘Mother Hen’ of the CLT Stores Team

In honor of Mother’s Day, we wanted to honor team members who are caretakers of their team. For the Charlotte Stores Department, Liz Jones Cowan fits that role. An Aviation Parts Specialist who just celebrated her one-year anniversary with PSA, Liz said she enjoys working for PSA because of the family feel.

“I love that the job challenges me, but mostly it’s the people I work with,” said Liz. “We are not just a team, we are a family.”

Charlotte Stores Manager Amy Miller describes Liz as the mother hen in CLT Stores and said everyone respects her.

We asked Liz about why people value the role she plays on the team.

Why do you like to take team members under your wing?

I always try to be a team member others could look up to and come to for advice, a hug, a laugh or even a shoulder that they can cry on. That’s just who I am. I try to lead by example. If they have a question, I have a solution. I always try to give advice from my experiences and what my mother would tell me.

Is there an example of a meaningful mentoring relationship you would like to share?

There are two team members that I work closely with - Jon Walker and Chris Hutt. We spend most of our day together. Although they’ve been here two months longer than me, we learn together. We have each other’s back.

"Liz has a positive energy that really brightens up a room,” said Jon. “She always has a smile on her face and is willing to help anyone who needs it. You know you're going to have a good day when she’s there.”

What do you offer to your fellow colleagues?

They know that if they have stories, I am going to listen. Whatever I have I’ll share, whether it’s knowledge, food or a smile.
