Flight Attendant Hiring Tips: How to Stand Out and Succeed

Becoming a flight attendant is a dream for many, but the hiring process can be competitive. Whether you’re just starting your application or preparing for an interview, here are some must-haves to ensure you stand out throughout the process.

Application Tips:

  1. Highlight Your Customer Service Experience
    Flight attendants are on the front lines of customer interaction. Any experience in customer service, whether in hospitality, retail, or another sector, shows you have the skills to handle passengers’ needs.
  2. Include Team Experience
    Teamwork is essential in the aviation industry. Be sure to include any experience where you’ve successfully worked within a team. Airlines want to know that you can collaborate and support your colleagues to ensure a safe and smooth flight.
  3. Highlight Safety and Emergency Training
    If you have any previous training in safety or emergency procedures, be sure to emphasize it. Airlines prioritize safety, so showcasing your readiness to handle emergencies will strengthen your application.
  4. Mention Language Skills
    While not required for PSA, let your recruiter know if you’re bilingual or have proficiency in other languages. Air travel is for everyone, and many airlines operate internationally, so being able to communicate with passengers in their native language can be part of a great customer service experience for non-English speakers.

Dress in business attire, stay polished and poised, and always maintain a friendly, approachable demeanor. A warm smile and positive attitude go a long way in creating a welcoming experience. 
  2. Prepare to Speak in a Group Setting
    Many airlines conduct group interviews to observe how candidates interact with and in front of others – just like you would when meeting customers. Be yourself. Practice speaking in front of others and remain confident and composed during group discussions. This will demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively with passengers and team members.
  3. Be Ready to Discuss Flight Scenarios
    Interviews often include scenario-based questions that assess how you would handle common situations flight attendants face. Be prepared to share how you would respond to challenges, such as dealing with difficult passengers or addressing in-flight emergencies. Remember: you don’t need to know everything about aviation to ace these questions. Approach them through a lens of safety, problem solving, and customer service, and you’ll crush it!
