Dr.King's Legacy: Celebrating With Action

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is this Monday, January 20th. Not to be confused with his birthday only a few days prior (January 15th), companies often observe this holiday by closing. While enjoying time at home is a completely acceptable way to spend your holiday, we've compiled a list of things to try to honor Dr. King's legacy in a few of our base cities:

1) Hit the streets for a walk:

Annually, cities across the U.S. remember Dr. King with peace walks. If you're in the Dayton, Ohio area, you can learn more about the MLK City of Dayton March here.

2) Celebrate with the arts:

A different approach to honoring Dr.King could be done with music, theatre, and spoken word. In Washington D.C., there are several events like this to attend. One, in particular, is a free event entitled, Not Just Another Day Off. Learn more about it here.

Be sure to include a visit to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in your plans, too!

3) Commit to a day of service:

Giving to help the betterment of others is a great way to honor Dr.King's legacy, and is perfectly aligned with his mission as well. In the Philadelphia area? You can join the largest MLK Day event in the nation! Click here for more information.
