PSA team members pull their way to fourth place at CLT Jet Pull event

Twenty PSA team members briefly traded their usual workstations for a spot alongside a Boeing 737 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, joining team members from across the American Airlines family at CLT for the annual Jet Pull. The event challenges teams to pull an aircraft 15 feet as quickly as possible in support of the Family Fund.

Competing against 21 other teams, PSA’s crew posted a time of 7.52 seconds, earning a fourth-place finish in the Charlotte event.

For Ashleigh Staton, Maintenance Training Administrative Assistant, the event provided a unique opportunity just two months into her PSA career.

“Probably one of the coolest things I’ve done at work,” Ashleigh said.

Standing beside the aircraft before the pull began, she wasn’t entirely convinced it would move.

“When I saw it, I was like, ‘This is going to be extremely difficult,’” she said. “But once we started going, the team got after it, and it was a great team effort.”

The team included participants from several departments across the company, reflecting the broad cross-section of workgroups that keep PSA running every day.

“Everybody has been so open, and it’s helped me tremendously getting out of my shell,” she said, reflecting on her experience at PSA so far. “There are so many different opportunities here to do different things and meet new people.”

While the aircraft pull itself lasted only seconds, Ashleigh said the experience is one she’ll remember long after the event is over.

Beyond the competition, Jet Pull supports awareness and fundraising efforts for the Family Fund, which provides financial assistance to American Airlines team members facing unforeseen hardships, natural disasters and other personal emergencies.
